Ganesha, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is a famous Hindu deity. His Image is found mostly throughout South and South-East Asia, and his devotion extends to Jainism and Buddhism. Ganesha is known as "the remover of obstacles", the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He is also considered the "god of beginnings", and is thus honored at the beginning of many rites and ceremonies.
Ganesha is depicted as an elephant head on a human body with four arms, each arm holding an object or performing a mudra. Commonly he is depicted holding an axe, a goad (elephant handling tool), his broken tusk, a delicacy, a human head or the "Abhaya mudra" (which is a hand gesture symbolizing protection and fearlessness).
In Kundalini Yoga, Ganesha is said to reside in the first chakra at the base of the spine called the Muladhara Chakra. A Beautiful quote from the an ancient Sanskrit text reads "Ganesha holds, supports and guides all other chakras, thereby "governing the forces that propels the wheel of life ".
In the Kabbalah Ganesha is placed on the 9th sphere on the Tree of Life, named Yesod, which is associated with the moon and the universal life force energy.
